University national teams are being encouraged to put themselves in the mix to compete in next year’s European University Championships across a series of sports.

The European University Sports Association (EUSA), which organise the events, has announced that registration has formerly opened.

Competitions are scheduled to run from June and September when student-athletes will get the chance to combine further education with top-level competition in their chosen sports.

The call for registrations come after this year saw EUSA stage the European Universities Games in Polish city Lodz and European Universities Rowing Championship in Istanbul in Turkey.

A total of 20 sports are expected to be confirmed for the events next year with a large bulk of those due to be staged in July.

3x3 basketball, badminton, basketball, beach handball, beach volleyball, combat sports in judo, karate, kickboxing and taekwondo, football, futsal, golf, handball, orienteering, rowing, rugby 7s, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and water polo are scheduled to be contested.

The first European University Championships is due to be held in football with Tirana in Albania set to play host from June 25 to July 2.

This is expected to be followed by continental tournaments in tennis, table tennis and handball with events for badminton, water polo and 3x3 basketball all down to be played in Hungary.

The calendar is due to conclude when the tournament for the beach sports of beach handball and beach volleyball finishes on September 24.
