Johannes Dale and Lisa Theresa Hauser won the first mass start races of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) World Cup season in Le Grand-Bornand.

Hauser edged out overall leader Julia Simon by 12.3sec in the women's race, after both shot clean at the last station.

The Austrian picked up only one penalty in the 12.5 kilometres race, whereas France's Simon had two.

Another French athlete, Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, was third, but undone by a miss at the last shooting station.

Sweden's Elvira Öberg and another home skier, Sophie Chauveau, completed the top five.

Norway's Dale overtook team-mate Sturla Holm Lægreid in the final loop to win the men's 15km contest.

World Cup leader Johannes Thingnes Bø was third to complete an all-Norwegian podium.

Dale and Lægreid each picked up two penalties and Bø three.

Bø and Simon remain the respective men's and women's IBU World Cup leaders thanks to their podium finishes.

It is Dale's first win of the season and Hauser's second.

The circuit now takes a break before returning in Pokljuka in the new year.
