Two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Steven Donnelly has been sentenced to 100 hours of community service after admitting to sexually assaulting a woman in a pub in Ballymena in Northern Ireland.

The Irish boxer attended Ballymena Magistrates Court where he issued his guilty plea after being charged with sexual assault and disorderly behaviour following the incident in October 2021.

He was ordered to complete an 18-month probation period and 100 hours of community service and sign the sex offenders register for five years.

According to a report by the BBC, the incident was described by the judge as "wholly inappropriate behaviour".

A defence lawyer said Donnelly had "enormous regret" and had "substance misuse problems, particularly with alcohol".

Donnelly claimed two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games, coming in the welterweight division at Glasgow 2014 and middleweight class at Gold Coast 2018.

The 34-year-old also represented Northern Ireland at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
