Britain’s Matt Weston won his second International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup crown, as he claimed victory in the men’s event at Lake Placid in the United States, while Tina Hermann led home a Germany one-two in the women’s competition.

Weston’s first World Cup success came at Innsbruck in 2021 when he claimed a historic triple victory, as he was tied at the top of the podium alongside Germany’s Christopher Grotheer and China’s Geng Wenqiang.

This time Weston had the top spot all to himself as he took victory in 1min 48.16sec, set up by the fastest first run of all competitors in a time of 53.74sec.

Olympic and world champion Grotheer claimed the silver medal in 1:48.32, with his fastest run of all competitors in the second run of 54.13 not quite enough to earn top spot.

The podium was completed by South Korea’s Jung Seunggi in 1:48.40.

In the overall season standings Seunggi sits top with 620 points after three podiums in as many races, with Grotheer a point behind on 619.

In the women’s event world champion Hermann led home a German one-two as she topped the podium in 1:51.06.

Hermann registered the fastest times in both runs of 55.47 and 55.59 respectively on her way to victory.

Her compatriot and junior world champion Susanne Kreher finished second in 1:51.37, as she claimed the first podium finish of her World Cup career.

The top three was completed by home athlete Kelly Curtis, who also earned a first World Cup podium of her career at her home track in a time of 1:51.39.

In the overall World Cup rankings Hermann took the lead with her victory moving to 611 points, with her compatriot Hannah Neise, the Olympic champion, second on 577.

World Cup action is scheduled to continue at Lake Placid tomorrow with the two-man bobsleigh and women’s monobob competitions.
