A perfect shooting display helped Anna Magnusson to a first-ever International Biathlon Union (IBU) World Cup win in Le Grand-Bornand.

The Swede completed the 7.5 kilometres in 21min 4.7sec, 12.8sec in front of compatriot Linn Persson.

Germany's Denise Hermann-Wick was 15.2 off the pace in third.

Both Persson and Hermann-Wick picked up costly penalties with the rifle.

France's Sophie Chauveau was 19.9 back in fourth, having also shot clean, and Mari Eder from Finland completed the top five.

France's Julia Simon, the overall World Cup leader, was down in 15th.

Hermann-Wick has closed the gap to 36 points and has 300 in total versus Simon's 336.

This is Magnusson's first solo win on the IBU World Cup circuit.

The 25-year-old has previously been in victorious Swedish relay teams and has won Olympic and World Championship silver medals.

A women's 10km pursuit and men's 12.5km pursuit are both scheduled tomorrow at the French venue.
