Commonwealth Games England has appointed Sharjeel Suleman and David Ellis to its Board as committees chairs.

Suleman is set to head up the Audit and Finance Committee, with Ellis leading the Commercial and Communications Committee for the Victoria 2026 cycle.

Suleman has spent 17 years at ITV, currently in the role of chief financial officer for ITV Studios.

He has previously served as director of group finance and director of investor relations.

"I'm excited and honoured to be joining the Board of Commonwealth Games England," Suleman said.

"Especially as sport, like media and entertainment, is entirely based on people and their passion to succeed at the very highest level.

"It is an exciting time to be joining and I look forward to working with the Board to ensure that we continue the successes of Team England."

Ellis is a former chief executive of Premiership Rugby club Harlequins, a role he held for nine years from 2011.

He is now the founder and chief executive of the David Ellis agency, which aims to help businesses and sports brands pursue the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

"It's an honour to take up this role with Commonwealth Games England, especially with the platform that such a successful Birmingham 2022 has given us," Ellis said.

"I am looking forward to working with the very talented team here, particularly as we move into this next exciting and important phase for the Games."

Commonwealth Games England chair John Steele welcomed Suleman and Ellis to the Board.

"It’s a privilege to welcome Sharjeel and David to the Board of Commonwealth Games England," Steele said.

"Their shared knowledge and experience will help continue to propel Commonwealth Games England forward, following its most successful Games to date this summer at an incredibly exciting time heading into the Victoria 2026 cycle with the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Games in 2023."

The Commonwealth Games England Board now consists of 12 members following the appointments of Suleman and Ellis.

England is one of the leading nations at the Commonwealth Games, one of only six to have competed at every edition since the inaugural Empire Games in 1930.

It has finished in the top three of the medals table at every Games, and held the multi-sport event for the third time in Birmingham earlier this year.

The host nation won 57 gold medals, 66 silver and 53 bronze to finish second on the medals table.

Commonwealth Games England has since undergone significant changes, including Steele replacing Ian Metcalfe as chair.
