European Judo Union (EJU) President László Tóth and general secretary Martin Poiger travelled to Ljubljana in preparation for the body's Ordinary Congress in the Slovenian capital on December 10.

The pair met with Slovenian Judo Federation President Lorencij Galuf, the country's Sports Minister Igor Papič, Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Papič, and Slovenian Olympic Committee President Bogdan Gabrovec.

"It was great to see all the initiatives of Slovenian Judo and the support expressed by the political leaders, and it was very nice to visit Judo Club Z’dežele Sankaku in Celje with legendary coach Marian Fabian," said Tóth during the two-day trip.

"For sure, Slovenia not only has four Olympic medal winners, their judo base is really strong.

"We are looking forward to future events in Ljubljana, Celje or other cities."

Around 150 delegates from 49 EJU member federations are expected to attend the Congress which is due to be held in conjunction with several workshops focused on EJU education programmes.

Marketing, event management, and administrative matters are also set to be worked on in Ljubljana.

During their time in Slovenia, Tóth and Poiger also visited Judoclub Olimpija Ljubljana which is hosting several Ukrainian refugees.

The EJU has already had a leadership change this year as Tóth was elected at the Extraordinary Congress in June.

Poiger is also a new appointment, having taken up his role following the event in the Austrian capital.

Tóth took over from the former President Sergey Soloveychik who stepped down after 15 years at the helm.

He resigned almost immediately after his country Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.
