The agreement was signed by ACF vice-president and Beijing 2008 Olympic champion Elnur Mammadli and UJF President Azizjan Kamilov.

"The memorandum focuses on strengthening the mutual understanding and solidarity between the peoples of the two countries through cooperation, developing friendly ties, and achieving mutually beneficial results aimed at the development of judo by establishing joint activities," a statement said.

Officials have said that the partnership will include collaboration in sports research, sports medicine and support for the organisation of sports events.

The agreement comes as the ACF celebrates the golden jubilee of its foundation in 1972.

Azerbaijan's only Olympic judo gold medal came at lightweight in the Beijing 2008 Games when Mammadli defeated Wang Ki-Chun of South Korea.

Rustan Orusov and Elmar Gasimov both won silver at Rio 2016.

The only Azeri woman to win an Olympic medal is Irina Kindzerskaya, who took bronze in Tokyo.

Uzbekistan's first Olympic medal as an independent nation at the summer Games came from Armen Bagdasarov, who won middleweight silver in 1996.

Davlat Bobonov won bronze at the same weight in Tokyo last year and went on to lift the World Championships crown last week in Tashkent.
