Italy and Britain added to their gold medal tallies in the Shotgun World Championships in Osijek in Croatia with triumphs in the team events.

Mauro de Filippis secured his second career gold in the World Championships, following Lonato del Garda 2019 glory, with Giulia Grassia in the trap mixed team final.

The pair beat Britain's Nathan Hales and Lucy Hall by a single point in shoot-off with the final score 4-3 after a 5-5 draw in the regulation rounds at the Shooting Range Pampas.

The Italians looked to be cruising after the third round as they led 5-1, but defeats in the last two periods levelled the scores.

They were able to regain their composure, however, following a rain-induced delay to clinch gold in the decider.

Grassia then went on to win another final, this time in the women's trap team alongside Alessia Iezzi and London 2012 gold medallist Jessica Rossi.

Once again it went to a shoot-off after a 5-5 draw.

Finland's Satu Makela-Nummela, Noora Antikainen and Mopsi Veromaa were unable to put up a fight and the Italian trio surged to a 3-0 win.

Hales was able to put his mixed team loss behind him in the men's trap team decider as Britain demolished the Czech Republic.

The 26-year-old was joined by Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Matthew Coward-Holley and Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games champion Aaron Heading as they won 7-1, with the fifth round not contested due to the insurmountable lead.

The Czech's Olympic champion Jiří Lipták missed just three shots, making him the second best of the six competitors behind Heading's two errors.

David Kostelecký also put in a good performance with just two misses and a perfect round in the first three rounds before missing three of five in the final segment.

Vladimir Stepan had a nightmare performance as he managed to hit the target just seven times from 20 attempts.
