Turkey bounced back from their shock defeat to Thailand by storming past South Korea at the Women's World Volleyball Championship in Gdańsk.

The South Koreans were unable to stop an onslaught as a fiery Turkish team executed as many as 16 kill blocks and 10 aces.

Saliha Şahin top scored for Turkey with 17 points, including three blocks and three aces, while seven of Ebrar Karakurt’s 17 points were kill blocks.

The opening set the tempo of the match as Turkey eased to a 25-14 victory.

They followed this by winning 25-13, 25-13 consecutively to take all the Pool B points.

Co-hosts Poland did not slip up against Thailand as their pool rivals did.

They put together successive 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 set wins to seal back-to-back wins.

Dominican Republic and Croatia were also in action in Pool B, with the Caribbean nation sweeping their opponents 25-20, 25-15, 25-21.

It means Dominican Republic are top of pool after making two consecutive wins without dropping a set.

Meanwhile in Arnhem in The Netherlands, Italy fended off a battling Belgium side in Pool A to seal their third successive triumph.

The Belgians initially took the lead, winning 25-21, but Italy fought tooth and nail to take the two following sets 30-28, 29-27.

It seemed Belgium may have run out of gas in the fourth set as Italy cruised to a 25-9 triumph and a 4-1 overall victory.

Kenya put their first points on the board after beating Cameroon 25-20, 27-25, 25-19.

China also recorded a 3-0 victory in Pool D, defeating Colombia across three sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-16.

They join fellow Pool D teams Japan and Brazil in maintaining an unbeaten start.
