Italy shocked National Basketball League (NBA) superstar Nikola Jokic and Serbia in the round-of-16 of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) EuroBasket 2022 after sealing a convincing 94-86 victory in Germany.

Jokic, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, recorded match-highs of 32 points and 13 rebounds, but it was not enough to beat the united effort of his opponents.

Marco Spissu, Micolo Melli, Simone Fontecchio and Archille Polonara combined for 78 points to guide their nation to an impressive win at the EuroBasket Arena in Berlin.

Italy are likely to need to produce a similar type of performance to defeat Olympic silver medallists France in the quarter-finals.

Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen led Finland to a storming 94-86 win over Bojan Bogdanović of Croatia.

Markkanen shot an incredible 65.5 per cent from the field and 75 per cent from the free throw line to total 43 points.

Bogdanovic, Markkanen's NBA teammate, scored a team-high of 23 points in the defeat.

Finland are now scheduled to meet Spain in the last eight.

Meanwhile, Poland fended off Ukraine to set up a tie against Slovenia.

The Polish team outscored their opponents in three of the four quarters to win 94-86.
