Defending world champions Poland and reigning bronze medallist United States took back-to-back victories at the Volleyball Men's World Championship in Katowice.

In the last match of the night, Poland defeated Mexico 25-17, 25-14, 25-19, with Tomasz Fornal and Lukasz Kaczmarek being their top point scorers with 10 and eight at Spodek.

Matching the hosts in Pool C, the US won 25-20, 25-23, 26-24 against Bulgaria, having three players reach over 10 points - Torey Defalco, Matthew Anderson and Aaron Russell.

Tsvetan Sokolov, the Bulgarian captain, had the most points in the match with 15.

Cuba defeated Qatar 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, assisted by the 22 points from Jaime Jesus Herrera and 17 from Robertlandy Simón at the Stožice Arena in Ljubljana.

Also in Pool B, Brazil defeated Japan 25-21, 25-18, 25-16, with their player Yoandy Leal topping the scoring with 17 points.

France went to the top of Pool D with a five-game thrilling win over co-hosts Slovenia.

They came from 2-1 down to defeat 25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 34-32, 15-7; with Earvin Ngapeth scoring 23 points to help France to victory.

Also in Ljubljana, Germany won 30-28, 25-14, 25-19 over Cameroon in Pool D.
