The programme for the Paris 2023 World Para Athletics Championships has been announced along with the entry standards, with the event set to be the first to provide direct qualification spots for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

A total of 171 medal events - 93 for men, 77 for women and 1 in the mixed category - are on offer.

The World Championships will also see an additional four medal events for men and five for women to address insufficient opportunities at the Paris Games.

With the Paris Games choosing to not include individual track events in the men’s and women’s T33 sport class, World Para Athletics has decided to conduct the men's and women's 100 metres T33 and T34 as separate events so it can be considered for future Paralympics.

"World Para Athletics believe that this event programme will allow athletes to focus all their efforts on gaining qualification slots and qualification performances for Paris 2024 and provide more opportunities for athletes with High Support Needs to compete at the top level," a World Para Athletics statement read.

The Charlety Stadium is set to host the World Championships next year from July 8 to 17.

This will be the third time that France will be hosting the event after Lille-Villeneuve d'Ascq 2002 and Lyon 2013.
