Damming humbled pre-match favourite Finnlay Withington of England 3-0 to secure the gold medal.

The pair had met as recently as the final of the European Junior Under-19 Championships in April when Withington came from a game down to win 3-1.

This time Damming dominated from the outset, with his defensive playing style better suited to the stuffy conditions in Nancy.

He cruised to an 11-4 win in the first game before a hard fought 12-10 second period.

Damming then held off a comeback to clinch an 11-8 victory in the third and spark wild celebrations from the Dutch bench.

"It feels amazing," said Damming.

"I don't know what to say.

"I'm so incredibly happy to get this title.

"I have no words!"

In the women's singles tournament, Orfi made a dreadful start against compatriot Salma El Tayeb as she quickly went down 11-9, 11-1.

However, just like in her 3-2 comeback in the semi-final she did not give up hope.

In the crucial third game, Orfi adopted a more aggressive tactic which saw her blitz El Tayeb 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 to become the youngest champion since a 13-year-old Nour El Sherbini triumphed in 2009.

"I feel so happy.

"I never imagined that I was going to play this year because I didn't play any under-19 tournaments.

"So I was playing with new competitors and I didn’t know how they would play.

"So I was just like 'I'm just going to give it my all and hopefully I can win'.

"I never like to lose.

"And I didn't play my best in the first two games.

"So I thought 'I'm 2-0 down'.

"'I'm just going to play my best and give it all because I don't have any more matches.'"

Following the conclusion of the individual events, attention now turns to the WSF Men's World Junior Team Championships.
