Hometown hopeful Katie Vincent impressed in qualifying on day two of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth, Canada.

In the women’s C1 200 metres defending champion Vincent posted the fastest time in her event - progressing to the final in 46.50 seconds.

Yarisleidis Duboys of Canada won the second heat in a time of 46.52, continuing an impressive season which has so far seen her unbeaten in ICF World Cups.

Catalin Chirila of Romania posted the quickest heat time in the men’s C1 1000, winning in 3min 59.40sec, and holding off Brazilian Olympic champion Isaquias dos Santos.

In the women’s K2 500 heats, the fastest qualifiers were Polish pair Karolina Naja and Anna Pulawska in 1:48.67, while in the men’s K2 500m, the fastest qualifiers were Ukrainian duo Oleh Kukharyk and Igor Trunov in 1:36.52.

Four more Paralympic titles were also handed out today beginning in the men’s IIT 200m, with gold going to Sebastian Girke of Germany in 1:07.53.

Girke was the only athlete from outside Canada not participating in the race, with silver going to Darryl Clark in 1:22.44 and bronze to Gohulan Rajalingam in 1:27.59.

In the women’s IIT 200m, gold went to Leona Johs of Germany in 1:26.60, the only non-Canadian athlete in the race.

Silver went to Rachel Cohen in 1:35.72, with bronze going to Alyssa Chapman in 1:39.94.

In the men’s IIP 200m category, Girke, the only non-Canadian in the race earned a second gold of the day in a time of 48.54 seconds.

Samuel Galazka took silver in 58.15, followed by Nathan Gillen, who won bronze in 58.69.

Finally in the women’s IIP 200m, there was Canadian success for Ashley Thomas who took gold in 1:05.12.

Germany’s Johs took silver in 1:13.60, with bronze to Canada’s Payton Dicks in 1:14.03.
