Denmark’s Mads Pedersen took kayak gold in the 2021 World Championships at Pitesti, Romania and seems assured of home support this weekend especially after his short distance gold medal at the World Games in Birmingham earlier in the month.

Portugal’s Jose Ramalho, who won his first world marathon title in the short race last year, is also expected to provide a strong men’s kayak challenge.

Hungary’s Adrian Boros, a World Championship winner back in 2015 is another who many believe will do well. 

Boros was a silver medallist at the World Championship last year and is also in the starting line-up.

The men’s canoe is expected to feature Spain’s Manuel Campos, world gold medallist in C2 last year.

In the women's kayak great things will be expected of Hungary’s Vanda Kiszli, who won both the short race and the marathon K-1 at the World Championships last October and also came away with two gold medals from the World Games in Birmingham earlier in the month.

Her compatriot Renata Csay, who made her international debut 25 years ago, is one of the most successful competitors of all time, and is also expected back on the water this weekend.

Racing is set to begin tomorrow with junior women’s kayak and canoe and junior men’s canoe, and continue until Sunday (July 31) when men’s and women’s kayak doubles are set to conclude the competition.
