Eight-time winners Germany were in control today in the second of the quarter-finals at the UEFA Women's Euro, defeating neighbouring Austria 2-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium in London.

The favourites duly delivered in their quest for a ninth European title, putting on the pressure early in front of 16,025 fans, scoring through Lina Magull in the 25th minute after Alexandra Popp squared it to her, sacrificing the chance to score her fourth goal in four games.

However, Popp got her fourth of the tournament in the 90th minute of the match, capitalising on a mistake from Austrian goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger.

Zinsberger attempted to play out from the back, but Popp got a leg out to block the kick, with the ball ending up in the Austrian net.

Germany are now set to face the winner of France and The Netherlands in the semi-finals, who are to play in Rotherham on Saturday (July 23).

The next quarter-final match to be played is to be between Sweden and Belgium in Leigh tomorrow, with the winner playing England in the final four.
