Belgium have thumped Chile 5-0 to set-up a quarter-finals clash against defending champions The Netherlands at the Women's International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Cup at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen.

Chile were put on the back foot immediately in the cross-overs match after Stéphanie Vanden Borrec handed Belgium the lead inside six minutes.

Justine Rasir added a second eight minutes later and Vanden Borrec extended their lead further, straight after.

Charlotte Englebert continued Belgium's dominance by converting in the second and third quarter.

The goals dried up thereafter and Belgium cruised to the next round of the competition where they will play the co-hosts.

The second cross-overs match saw Germany defeat South Africa 1-0 at the same venue.

Olympic bronze medallist Nike Lorenz scored the only goal of the fixture in the 38th minute to progress to the quarter-final tie against New Zealand.

Both quarter-finals are scheduled to take place on July 12.

Tomorrow's cross-overs action involves England playing South Korea and co-hosts Spain facing India.

Classification games are also due to be staged with Ireland taking on South Africa and China competing against Chile.
