Chilean Olympians Esteban and Marco Grimalt have won the gold medal in the men's competition at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour event in Gstaad in Switzerland.

The final between the cousins and Czech Olympians Ondřej Perušič and David Schweinerin was close despite being a straight-set victory. 

Esteban and Marco took the first set 21-19 before triumphing 22-20 in the second set.

In the bronze medal match, Brazil's Bruno Schmidt, an Olympic gold medallist, and Saymon Barbosa fell short of the third-place award against Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde.

The Dutchmen won 20-22, 21-16, 15-12 to ensure they finished the tournament on the podium.

In the women's quarter-finals, Brazilian world champions Duda and Ana Patrícia defeated former world champions Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes of Canada 21-11, 21-13.

Australia's Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar, who won silver at the Rio 2016 Olympics, overcame Canadian duo Sophie Bukovec and Brandie Wilkerson 16-21, 21-10, 15-12.

Bárbara Seixas de Freitas and Ana Carolina da Silva bested German pair Karla Borger and Julia Sude 21-15, 17-21, 15-12 while Tina Graudiņa and Anastasija Kravčenoka also progressed after sweeping aside Americans Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth.

The Latvians won 21-19, 18-21, 20-18 to set up a semi-final tie against Duda and Ana Patrícia.

Clancy and Artacho del Solar are due to play Bárbara and Carolina.

The women's semi-finals and medal matches are set to be played tomorrow.
