The Swede will arrive here as the overwhelming favourite after winning five gold medals at the International Orienteering Federation’s flagship event last time out.

She triumphed in the women’s sprint, middle and long distances as well as claiming the relay and mixed sprint relay crowns.

It is difficult to foresee anyone overcoming Alexandersson who won both the sprint and knockout sprint titles at the opening round of the World Cup season a month ago.

Alexandersson has earned 26 medals, including 15 golds in 11 editions of the World Championships and she will be hungry for more success in Denmark with three sprint titles up for grabs.

Switzerland’s Simona Aebersold, who finished behind Alexandersson in last season’s overall World Cup standings, is showing signs of returning to form following injury and will look to challenge her dominant Swedish rival.

Other medal contenders include Andrine Benjaminsen of Norway, Britain’s Megan Carter Davies and Swedish duo Lina Strand and Hanna Lundberg.

While Alexandersson looks a sure bet to boost her gold medal tally, the men’s competition is far more open with several athletes in the mix for top honours.

Matthias Kyburz of Switzerland topped last season’s World Cup rankings and claimed the middle-distance title last time out.

The Swiss star looked in fine form at the World Cup leg in Borås last month where he won the knockout sprint competition.

Tim Robertson of New Zealand is currently leading the World Cup standings and will be desperate to claim gold in Denmark, completing the full set of medals after earning sprint silver in 2018 and 2021.

Kasper Fosser of Norway is another returning champion after capturing long distance gold at the 2021 World Championships in Doksy in the Czech Republic.

The Triangle Region, comprising of three towns Veijle, Kolding and Fredericia, is set to stage all three sprint events.

A total of 323 athletes from 42 nations are expected to line-up in Denmark.

Competition is due to start tomorrow with the sprint relay before the knockout sprint is held on Tuesday (June 28) and the sprint individual takes place on June 30.
