Brazil's Carolina Solberg Salgado and Barbara Seixas de Freitas took one step closer to their third title on the World Volleyball Beach Pro Tour title after progressing to the women's final in Jūrmala in Latvia.

The pairing is seeking a third gold after winning the inaugural event in Tiaxcala in March and then triumphing in Doha last month.

They fended off a potential comeback against the United States' Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss in the quarter-finals today, pulling through for a 21-11, 18-21, 15-12.

Carol was on fire as she picked up 25 of the Brazilians' 32 attack points, which was two fewer than the Americans' 34.

Despite Kloth and Nuss attacking prowess, they committed 13 errors which swung the tie in their opponents favour.

The win saw Carol and Barbara progress to the semi-finals where they met another American duo in the form of Sara Hughes and Kelley Kolinske.

The final-four match played out similarly to the previous fixture as the Brazilians won 21-17, 13-21, 15-8.

Carol and Barbara are set to meet Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes in the final after the Canadians beat Duda Lisboa and Ana Patrícia 18-21, 21-19, 15-10 in the semi-final.

In the men's final Samuele Cottafava and Paolo Nicolai of Italy are due to face Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan of Qatar.

Younousse and Tijan comfortably beat Estonians Kusti Nõlvak and Mart Tiisaar in the semi-final 21-11, 21-14.

Nicolai and Cottafava also advanced after a straight-games victory against George Souto Maior Wanderley and Andre Loyola Stein of Brazil, winning 21-19, 22-20.

The men's final is set to take place first tomorrow at 4pm local time before the women play at 5pm.
