Algeria finished the 2022 African Judo Championships with victory on the final day of competition in Oran, topping the podium in the mixed team event.

Having dominated in the individual tournaments with seven gold medals, the hosts were the favourites for the last title of the competition.

The likes of Amina Belkadi, Yamina Halata and Kaouthar Ouallal were all gold medallists on the women's side, while Mohamed Sofiane Belrekaa, Abderrahmane Benamadi and Messaoud Redouane Dris were victors in men's categories.

They were all pivotal to taking the mixed team gold medals, meaning Algeria won a medal in 14 of the 15 categories, with the only podium missing being in the men's under-66 kilograms.

Senegal were the silver medallists, aided by their star heavyweights, women's over-78kg silver medallist Monica Sagna and men's over-100kg bronze medallist Mbagnick Diaye.

The final between the nations finished 4-2 in favour of Algeria.

Cameroon and Morocco completed the podium, with both winning bronze medals.
