France's Jean-Baptiste Bernaz has taken the lead after the second day of competition at the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) 7 Men's World Championship, followed by two British sailors at Riviera Nayarit in Mexico.

Following a difficult opening race, where the Frenchman finished 19th, the four-time Olympian finished second and third today in the yellow fleet to move onto a net total of eight points.

Daniel Whiteley and Elliot Hanson both recovered from poor second races, with both Britons winning a race each in the blue fleet to move into second and third on 11 points.

Whiteley was first in race three, before placing second behind Hanson in race four.

Three other sailors sit on that net total too - Joaquin Blanco Abalat of Spain, Jonatán Vadnai of Hungary and Croatia's two-time Olympic silver medallist Tonči Stipanović.

Stipanović finished third again today, but followed up with his worst performance so far in race four - eighth.

Defending world champion Thomas Saunders of New Zealand slid down from ninth to 17th after finishing 12th and 19th today.

Ireland's Finn Lynch, who claimed silver in 2021, sits in eighth with a best today of fourth in race three.

Germany's Philipp Buhl and Aruba's Just van Aanholt were winners today too and sit in 10th and 14th respectively.
