Olympian Sarra Hamdi, also of Tunisia, took gold in the women’s under-50kg following her success over Egypt’s Nada Medani Ashour Abdalla Mohamed.

Ibtissem Doudou of Algeria secured the bronze medal.

Egypt did win a gold in the women’s under-53kg after Shaimaa Atef Barakat Mohamed beat Lobna Ichaoui of Tunisia.

Adekuoroye Mercy Bolafunoluwa completed the podium for the event.

Cameroon Olympian Joseph Émilienne Essombe Tiako stood at the top of the women’s under-57kg category after she overcame Algeria’s Rayane Houfaf while Farah Ali Hamada Mohamed Hussein finished in third in the division.

Nigeria’s Jumoke Bukola Adekoye, Cameroon’s Berthe Emilienne Etane Ngolle and Senegal’s Anta Sambou also won golds in the women’s under-55kg, under-65kg and under-72kg classes, respectively.

Olympian Fatoumata Yarie Camara of Guinea, Rio 2016 bronze medallist Marwa Amri of Tunisia and world bronze medallist Samar Amer of Egypt claimed the titles in the under-59kg, under-62kg and over-76kg groups.

In the men’s Greco-Roman, Algeria dominated the proceedings with five golds through Abdeldjebar Djebbari, Abdelkarim Fergat, Abd Elkrim Ouakali, Bachir Sid Azara and Adem Boudjemline.

Djebbari and Fergat both took down Egyptian opposition with Djebbari defeating Egypt’s Ahmed Fouad Fouad Hussein Baghdouda in the under-60kg final and Fergat beating Moustafa Hussein Fathy Alameldin in the under-63kg final.

Tunisia’s Salm Hamdi secured bronze in the under-60kg while the hosts’ Fouad Fajari finished in the same position for the under-63kg.

Ouakali bettered Tunisia’s Hakim Trabelsi in the under-82kg as Egypt’s Mohamed Abdelsattar Ghaly achieved bronze.

Sid Azara beat Tunisia’s Mohamed Skander Missaoui in the under-87kg.

Boudjemline secured his sixth African Championships title after overcoming Egypt’s Mohamed Ali Elsayed Gabr in the under-97kg division.

Abdelrahman Ahmed Aly Mohamed Omar and Mohamed Ehab Mohamed Zahab Khalil claimed golds for Egypt in the under-67kg and under-72kg events while Abdalla Mohamed Shaaban Mohamed Shaaban produced the same feat in the under-55kg.

Abdellatif Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed also achieved gold for the Egyptian team after winning the over-130kg class.

The African Wrestling Championships is scheduled to enter its final day tomorrow.
