Brazilian world champion and Olympic silver medallist Beatriz Ferreira got her campaign at the International Boxing Association (IBA) Women's World Boxing Championships off to a flyer, winning her opener by referee's stoppage.

Ferreira took on the young Mongolian Badmaarag Ganzorig in the under-60 kilogram category, undoing the youngster and forcing an end to the bout during round two here at the Başakşehir Youth and Sports Facility in Istanbul.

Another referee's stoppage came a few fights later as Algerian Ichrak Chaib looked in control against Ninoska Perez of Venezuela in the under-66kg tournament, cementing herself as one of the standouts in her weight category so far.

In what could have easily been the under-50kg final if not for a difficult draw, Rio 2016 bronze medallist Ingrit Valencia of Colombia won 3-2 in a split decision, knocking out the two-time world champion, Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan, in the process.

Olympic and world silver medallist Buse Naz Çakıroğlu remains Turkey's best hope of a gold medal on home soil and she was convincing in her opening under-50kg match, beating Mungunsaran Balsan of Mongolia unanimously.

Busenaz Sürmeneli, the Olympic champion, progressed from her match too in the under-66kg in what looked to be a salivating contest against Angela Carini, however, early in the first round, the Italian suffered a serious injury which forced her to be stretchered off, making it a referee's stoppage.

Hatice Akbas made it a third win for Turkey, beating Germany's Zeina Nassar in the under-54kg.

But it was not all positive for the hosts as 2016 European bronze medallist Esra Yıldız bowed out following a 3-2 split decision defeat to Italian Alessia Mesiano in the under-60kg.

Japan's Satsuki Yoshizawa came from behind to defeat Colombia's Valeria Arboleda by a 4-1 split decision in the under-54kg, while Kosovan boxer Donjeta Sadiku put in a dominant performance in the under-60kg, beating Japan's Ayaka Taguchi unanimously.

Speaking of dominant, American boxer Rashida Ellis looked like the one to beat in the under-60kg following her decimation of Marija Malenica from Croatia, scoring several 10-8s during their bout.

German prodigy Stefanie von Berge was strong in her under-66kg fight too, beating Argentina's Lucia Perez by unanimous decision.
