An International Fencing Federation (FIE) Grand Prix in Cairo is set to begin tomorrow, with men's and women's épée events being held at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex.

Day one will start with the preliminary stage of the men's competition, followed by women's qualification on Saturday (April 30), while the climax of both contests will take place on Sunday (May 1).

Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex has hosted several FIE World Cups and Grands Prix in the recent past.

The complex, the first of its kind in Africa and the Middle East, is expected to welcome more than 230 athletes representing countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, India and the host nation.

Marie-Florence Candassamy is among the athletes set to represent France along with compatriots Coraline Vitalis, Eloise Vanryssel and Aliya Luty.

Candassamy, who is fourth in the women's épée world rankings, competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics, finishing 16th, and is a three-time Grand Prix bronze medallist.
