Olympic champion Kelsey Mitchell triumphed in the women’s sprint competition on the second day of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Track Cycling Nations Cup in Glasgow.

The Canadian star posted the fastest time in qualification at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, before winning four consecutive races to reach the final.

The semi-final saw Mitchell overcome Ukraine’s Olena Starikova in a repeat of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic final.

Dutch cyclists Laurine van Riessen provided the opposition in the gold medal contest in Glasgow, after beating Colombia’s Martha Bayona Pienda in straight rides in the semi-finals.

Mitchell finished top of the podium after winning both races in the final against van Riessen, adding to the silver medal she earned in the team sprint yesterday.

Bayona Pienda won the bronze medal race by beating Starikova in both races.

Olympic omnium silver medallist Yumi Kajihara earned gold in the women’s elimination race in Glasgow.

The Japanese cyclist overcame France’s Valentine Fortin in the final sprint of the competition, with New Zealand’s Ally Wollaston securing bronze.

World champion Elia Viviani emerged as the winner of the men’s elimination race, with the Italian beating the Netherlands’ Yoeri Havik.

France’s Corentin Ermenault secured his second gold medal of the event, adding the individual pursuit title to team success yesterday.

Ermenault achieved a time of 4min 5.644sec to win the final against Germany’s Nicolas Heinrich, who finished in 4:09.371.

Britain’s Charlie Tanfield was the winner of the bronze medal contest, achieving a time of 4:09.209.

Tobias Buck-Gramcko missed out on the podium after the German cyclist finished adrift of Tanfield in 4:10.453.

The men’s kilometre time trial event saw Colombia’s David Ortega Fontalvo emerge as the winner.

He achieved a time of 1:00.325 to claim the final.

France’s Melvin Landerneau and Spain’s Alejandro Martinez Chorro completed the podium places, clocking 1:00.700 and 1:00.832, respectively.
