Argentina's women maintained their perfect start to the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League season with a 3-1 victory over the United States, while there was also a win for the men's side.

The men came from behind to defeat France 4-2 at Cenard in Buenos Aires, but first the women also fought back to earn a win at the same venue.

The Americans had lead at the halfway mark, thanks to Danielle Grega's opportunistic goal.

Argentinian pressure told in the third quarter, however with two goals in the space of a minute turning the match on its head.

Valentina Costa converted a penalty corner and then Rocio Sanchez scored from another, although the second goal came after the Americans had repelled initial shots.

The US could not find an equaliser and Costa scored her second, again from a penalty corner, in the final minute to seal a 3-1 win.

"It was a very difficult match but we are happy because we won," Costa said.

"That is the important thing."

Argentina's men required a fourth-quarter comeback to see off France.

Tobias Martins had got the hosts off to a dream start, yet Etienne Tynevez and Antonin Igau goals left the French 2-1 ahead at the end of three quarters.

However, Toma Domene and Lautaro Ferrero each scored from penalty corners to restore the Argentina lead, before Martins grabbed his second goal late on to put the result beyond doubt.

Repeat fixtures are scheduled tomorrow.

Olympic silver medallists Argentina are now third in the women's FIH Pro League standings, with the maximum 15 points from five games, and are four points off the Dutch world, Olympic and Pro League champions, having played three fewer games.

Top-of-the-table India, who benefitted from England forfeiting two matches earlier this month, have 22 points from five more games than Argentina, while the US remain pointless.

Argentina's men remain fourth after their win, with France sixth, but the hosts will go second should they win again tomorrow.
