The ParaMatildas football team has hosted its first ever national training camp to mark the beginning of the squad's preparations for this year's International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IPCPF) Women’s World Cup.

The training camp took place over three days at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra alongside their national team compatriots, the Commonwealth Bank Junior Matildas and Commonwealth Bank Young Matildas.

"It’s an exciting time and it’s the first time we have been together as a team under the ParaMatildas name," head coach Kelly Stirton said.

"This camp is about connecting as a squad, developing the team culture and building a solid platform to take to the World Cup.

"The coaching staff and team are on a high and can’t wait to get on the field."

The team’s first tournament, the IPCPF Women’s World Cup, is scheduled to take place from May 8 to 18.

The ParaMatildas' IFCPF Women's World Cup pool opponents have been revealed with Australia set to face Japan, the United States, Spain and the Netherlands.

The ParaMatildas are the first national women’s team for players with cerebral palsy (CP), acquired brain injury (ABI) and symptoms of stroke, and are currently ranked at number four in the world.

CP football is a seven-a-side sport with smaller goals, 30-minute halves and no offsides.

According to Football Australia, players can be classified as FT1, FT2 and FT3 depending on their disability, with at least one FT1 player and a maximum of one FT3 player required at all times.

Football Australia have invited the public to support the team by making a donation, which will go directly to supporting national team training camps and tournament costs.
