Myles Amine became the first wrestler from San Marino to win a European Championships title by winning the men’s 86-kilogram freestyle final in Budapest.

Amine faced the challenge of Azerbaijan’s Abubakr Abakarov in the gold-medal bout at the BOK Sports Hall in the Hungarian capital.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallist earned a 9-5 victory in the final.

The US-born wrestler had previously had near misses at the European Championships, winning silver in 2020 and bronze in 2021.

Poland’s Sebastian Jezierzanski and Turkey’s Osman Göçen won bronze medals in the weight division.

Turkey celebrated double gold on the final day of men’s freestyle wrestling competition.

Feyzullah Aktürk earned victory in the 92kg event, overcoming Bulgaria’s Akhmed Bataev 6-1 in the gold-medal bout.

Azerbaijan’s Osman Nurmagomedov and Georgia’s Miriani Maisuradze completed the podium after winning bronze-medal matches.

The heavyweight 125kg competition saw Turkey’s Taha Akgül crowned as the winner.

The Rio 2016 Olympic champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist beat Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili 5-2 in the final.

Akgül has now won the European title on eight occasions, including winning five of the past six events.

Petriashvili triumphed in 2020, when Akgül was absent from the event.

Akgül and Petriashvili were joined on this year’s podium by Hungary’s Daniel Ligeti and Poland’s Robert Baran.

Armenia’s Arsen Harutyunyan earned the second European Championship gold medal of his career by winning the men’s 61kg event.

The 2019 champion earned a comfortable 15-3 win over Turkey’s Süleyman Atlı.

Bronze medals were secured by Poland’s Eduard Grigorev and Bulgaria’s Georgi Vangelov.

Slovakia’s Tajmuraz Salkazanov defended his European title in the 74kg event, beating Italy’s Frank Chamizo 7-5 in the final.

Azerbaijan’s Turan Bayramov and Georgia’s Giorgi Sulava won bronze.

Women’s wrestling competition began today, with Turkey’s Evin Yavuz and Miglena Selishka reaching the 50kg final.

Ukraine’s Oleksandra Khomenets will face Romania’s Andreea Ana in the 55kg gold-medal bout, while the 59kg final will see Poland’s Jowita Wrzesien take on Moldova’s Anastasia Nichita.

Moldova will also be represented in the 68kg final when Irina Ringaci competes against France’s Pauline Lecarpentier.

Estonia’s Epp Maee and Yasemin Adar of Turkey will contest the 76kg final.
