USA Luge head coach Robert Fegg has announced his resignation after a four-year association with the organisation.

Fegg initially joined USA Luge in 2018, where he coached the junior national team for two seasons.

He was promoted to head coach in May 2020 and led the US team through to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

"We wish Robert nothing but the best as he moves forward in his career," said Jim Leahy, USA Luge chief executive.

"In his time with us, Robert always gave us his best efforts with passion and commitment, and kept the success of the athletes and the organisation as his top priorities."

USA Luge said Fegg will officially step down on Friday (April 1).

A search for his successor is expected to begin immediately.

Fegg previously competed for Germany between 1997 to 2001, before embarking on a coaching career.

He had held coaching roles in Canada and South Korea before joining USA Luge.

Fegg, who lives in Calgary with his family, had succeeded Bill Tavares as head coach in 2020.

Tavares then served as the team manager under Fegg for the past two seasons.

Tavares left USA Luge earlier this month for a position at the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee Training Center in Lake Placid.

United States were represented by an eight-member luge team at Beijing 2022.
