Gold Coast in Australia is set to stage the International Cycling Union Oceania Mountain Bike Cross-Country Championships.

Australia’s heavyweight cross-country riders are expected to line-up at the Nerang National Park - a venue for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games - to challenge for continental medals tomorrow.

Home rider Rebecca McConnell will be looking to defend the elite women’s title she secured in 2020.

New Zealand’s Anton Cooper, who secured cross-country gold at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, is among the contenders in the elite men’s field.

The first-ever combined Oceania Cycling Championships started last week with hosts Australia winning three of the four titles on offer in mountain bike downhill.

Kooralbyn Mountain Bike Park in Queensland hosted the two-day competitions with more than 100 riders taking part.

Hayden Stead of New Zealand and Ellie Smith of Australia claimed the respective elite men’s and women’s titles.

There was also success for Australia in the under-19 races with Gus Kyme and Elle De Nooyer coming out on top.

Track cycling, BMX racing, BMX freestyle and road events are also set to be held over the next two weeks as part of the Oceania Cycling Championships.
