Račice in the Czech Republic is set to host the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships after the event had to be moved away from Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.

The Czech Canoe Union agreed to host the event alongside the Czech National Dragon Boat Championships on September 3 and 4 at the National Water Sports Centre.

The venue is also scheduled to host an ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup event next month.

It was originally scheduled for Ternopil in Ukraine for September 22 to 25.

"It is obviously very disappointing that our good friends in Ukraine can no longer host this event, and as a community we will continue to support the Ukrainian canoe family in whatever way we can," ICF calm water technical manager, Martin Marinov, said.

"We are very grateful to the Czech Canoe Union for stepping in at such short notice to agree to host the event.

"We are sure, with their experience, that they will put on a fantastic show."

The inaugural Dragon Boat World Championships were held on Lake Lanier in Gainesville in the United States in 2018.

There were 90 races altogether including heats and finals in junior, senior and masters categories.

Germany topped the medals table with 16 golds, ahead of the host nation on eight while the Philippines picked up five gold medals as a total of 13 countries took part.

The 2025 Dragon Boat World Championships were awarded to Ruse in Bulgaria by the ICF Board last year.
