Tiril Eckhoff of Norway and Erik Lesser of Germany won the pursuit events on the penultimate day of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) World Cup in Oslo, Norway.

Eckhoff was victorious in a time of 29min 55.7sec in the women’s 10 kilometres pursuit, while Lesser powered to the line in 32min 03.8sec in the 12.5km men's pursuit to steal overall victory away from the pursuit standings leader Quentin Fillon Maillet of France.

Despite the two penalties on the day, Eckhoff pulled off a sprint/pursuit double.

Marte Olsbu Røiseland of Norway finished second 24.9 seconds back followed by Slovakia’s Paulina Fialkova in third, 50.5 seconds back.

France's Anais Chevalier-Bouchet, with one penalty finished fourth, 59 seconds back and Germany’s Denise Herrmann, with two penalties, ended up fifth, 1:05.2 back.

"I saw Marte and was thinking she is going to hit all the targets and I am going to be number two," said Eckhoff.

"Then she missed one target; I know the focus is really bad and this is my opportunity.

"I just tried to as fast as I can and tried to hit those targets."

Lesser, who will retire after the mass start event tomorrow, came to the last standing stage of the race in second position but managed to shoot clean while Lægreid missed twice.

This is the German's first victory after winning the mass start in Ruhpolding in January 2016 from Martin Fourcade.

"I have no emotions, only lactate and pain," he said.

"I was fifth yesterday like in 2015 (IBU World Championships where he won the pursuit title) and today clean shooting being the first over the finish line.

"I competed with the best and I beat them today.

"At the end of my career, that is a very emotional thing."

Second place went to Fillon Maillet, with one penalty and 9.4 seconds back.

Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid with three penalties finished third, 22.7 seconds back.

Sweden’s Sebastian Samuelsson, with two penalties, managed to secure fourth 1:04.9 back, while Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen of Norway finished fifth and 1:09.7 back, with two penalties as well.
