The event is making a return after a two-year hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic and will be the first curling competition to follow the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

This competition will also be unique due to the trialling of the no tick rule.

The "no-tick" rule will apply to any stone in the free guard zone touching the centre line while the free guard zone rule is in effect. 

If an opponent's stone is moved from the no-tick zone, while the free guard zone rule is in action, it is treated similarly to a violation of the free guard zone.

This is due to be the 42nd edition of the World Women’s Curling Championship, and will feature 13 teams from across North America, Europe and Asia.

Alongside the Canadian hosts, the full list of competitors includes the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United States.

Switzerland, the defending champions, will be captained by the veteran Silvana Tirinzoni, who will be looking to secure her third world title.

The recent removal of the Russian Curling Federation from the event, as a result of measures introduced following Russia's invasion of Ukraine alongside Belarus, opened up a place in the line-up for the Czech Republic team.

Turkey, captained by Dilsat Yildiz, will be making their debut appearance at the World Championship competition.

Twenty sessions of round-robin action are set to be played between March 19 and 25 and these will determine the top six ranked teams.

Of these six, the number one and two ranked teams will automatically progress on to the semi-finals.

The remaining teams will then compete in qualifying rounds that are due to be held on March 26, with the semi-finals scheduled for that evening.

The gold and bronze medal finals are then due to be staged on March 27.
