Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen completed a giant slalom double in Kranjska Gora as he produced a storming second run to clinch victory at the International Ski Federation Alpine Ski World Cup event in the Slovenian resort.

Kristoffersen ranked third after the first run but saved his best until last to overcome World Cup leader Marco Odermatt of Switzerland to seal the title in a combined time of 2min 18.13sec.

Fresh from capturing the giant slalom crystal globe yesterday, Odermatt powered into the lead with a first-run time of 1:12.16.

He failed to back it up, posting the 11th best second run of 1:06.24 to dash his hopes of victory.

Kristoffersen trailed both Odermatt  and Alexander Schmid of Austria at the halfway point after completing the opening run in 1:12.46.

He was half-a-econd behind Odermatt before climbing to the top of the standings with 1:05.67 in the second run as his Swiss rival failed to respond to his challenge.

Odermatt had to settle for third with 2:18.40, while Austria’s Stefan Brennsteiner moved from fifth to second overall with 2:18.36 after runs of 1:12.63 and 1:05.73.

Schmid slipped from second to fifth with 2:18.67, while Lucas Braathen of Norway came fourth with 2:18.40.

It was Kristoffersen’s fifth victory of the season, moving him up to third in the overall World Cup rankings with 874 points.

Odermatt’s third-place finish strengthens his position at the top of the leaderboard with 1,379 points, while Norway’s Aleksander Aamodt Kilde remains second on 1,050.

Odermatt will hope to seal the crystal globe when the season concludes in Courchevel in France with competitions scheduled to run from Wednesday (March 16) until next Sunday (March 20).
