Mike_Fennell_with_Delhi_logo_behind_himNovember 28 - Top ranking officials from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), including President Mike Fennell, are arriving here blanketed in snow for a series of meetings in the Scottish city which are due to get underway tomorrow.

The CGF will be joined by a number of delegates from key Commonwealth nations for the three-day event which will feature a review of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in an official debriefing.

The conference will also involve a look ahead to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games with chief executive John Scott meeting with CGF officials to discuss the city's preparations for the event.

Meanwhile the two 2018 bid cities, Hambantota in Sri Lanka and Gold Coast in Australia, will be in attendance for a Candidate City Seminar.

In what is set to be a tight race to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast chairman Mark Stockwell will be promoting the Australian city in Scotland while Hambantota's new look bid committee, including former Deputy Minister of Justice Dilan Perera, will be fighting the corner of the costal city in South Asia.

The two 2018 bid cities will spend the week on the Commonwealth Games Observer Programme where they will be working closely with Glasgow 2014 team to look at the key facets involved in organising the prestigious multi-sport event.

CGF chief executive Mike Hooper indicated to insidethegames that the meetings in Glasgow will be a "vital learning opportunity" for the two 2018 bid cities who will both be looking to impress voters in Glasgow.

The final decision on who will host the 2018 Commonwealth Games will be made next year on November 11, 2011 in Basseterre in Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean although one of the key dates for both cities will be in June and July next year when the Commonwealth Games Evaluation commission visits both Candidate Cities to access the technical elements of their bids.
