The men’s and women’s hockey schedule for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham has been revealed with the Gold Coast 2018 finals set to be repeated in the group stages.

Australia, the defending champion, are due to play Gold Coast finalists New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Scotland in Pool A in a tournament due to be played at the University of Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Pool B consists of India, England, Canada, Wales, and Ghana.

The women’s competition has the same set of teams in Pool A.

Reigning women’s champions New Zealand have been pitted against Gold Cost 2018 finalists Australia, Kenya, Scotland, and South Africa in Pool B.

The opening day is set to be action packed with the first six matches of 54 due to take place on July 29.

In the women’s competition, champions New Zealand is due to play Kenya, and South Africa is set to face Scotland.

India, who are sending reserve teams to this tournament so they can prepare for the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September, is also scheduled to meet Ghana, and Canada is anticipated to play Wales.

Later, England, the hosts, are set to come up against Ghana while New Zealand plays Scotland to start the men’s tournament.

The first Home Nations match is set for July 31 when England’s men’s team take on Wales.

Th next two days is anticipated to be blockbuster with repeats of the Gold Coast 2018 medal matches taking place.

On August 1, the men’s competition has New Zealand matched with Australia, as well as India being locked in against England.

The following day, the same fixtures are scheduled to take place in the women’s tournament.

Four years ago, Australia beat New Zealand 2-0 in the men’s final for their sixth consecutive gold medal since the sport was introduced on to the Commonwealth Games programme at Kuala Lumpur 1998.

New Zealand women’s team succeeded where the men’s failed, beating Australia 4-1, their first Commonwealth Games gold medal in the sport.

On the other hand, India lost both bronze medal matches to England at Gold Coast 2018.

Once the group stages close on August 4, the classification and knockout phase is due to begin.

The women are expected to play the fixtures deciding places 10th to seventh, as well as the semi-finals, on August 5.

The same collection of matches is anticipated to be replicated the following day for the men.

August 7 is scheduled to have fifth and sixth place classification fixtures for both competitions, in addition to the women’s medal matches.

The men’s medal matches are expected to be held on August 8.
