The 26-year-old Venezuelan is one of the stellar talents due to perform at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur in the seventh and last of this season’s World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meetings, with the World Athletics Indoor Championships due to be held in Belgrade from March 18 to 20.

This is effectively a home meeting for Rojas, who trains 66 kilometres away in Guadalajara, where she moved in 2015 to work with Cuba's 2000 Olympic and four-time world long jump champion Iván Pedroso.

Having started her season with long jump victory in the fourth Gold meeting of the season in Liévin with a personal best of 6.81m, Rojas - who broke Inessa Kravets' 1995 world record of 15.50m in winning the Tokyo 2020 title with 15.67m - looks capable of improving her world indoor mark.

Meanwhile the highlight on the track looks likely to occur in the men’s 3,000 metres, where the Ethiopian trio who have battled each other throughout the indoor season - Lamecha Girma and Getnet Wale, respectively second and fourth in the Tokyo 2020 3,000m steeplechase, and Olympic 10,000m champion Selemon Barega - are set to go at it again in a field that also features the potent home duo of Adel Mechaal and Mohamed Katir.

Barega may feel he has a point to prove having finished a close second to Girma - whose season's best of 7min 30.54sec puts him second in the 2022 world list behind the 7:26.20 run by compatriot Berihu Aregawi - at the Gold meetings in Liévin and Toruń.

Mechaal should be in the mix, however, having recently set a Spanish record of 7:30.82 in New York.

The hosts will also fancy their chances in the men’s 800m, where Mariano García tops the season’s list after his 1:45.12 win at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in New York.

He will take on Kenya’s Collins Kipruto and Britain’s Elliot Giles, who finished respectively first and second in Birmingham last month in 1:45.39 and 1:45.42.

In the women’s 800m, Australia’s Catriona Bisset looks favourite having set a national record of 1min 59.46sec in Birmingham last month behind Britain's Keely Hodgkinson, whose 1:57.20 was the fastest women’s indoor 800m time run in 20 years.

The women's high jump will feature an intriguing competition between Eleanor Patterson, who set an Australian indoor record and 2022 world lead of 1.99 metres at Banská Bystrica on February 2, Marija Vuković, who has cleared a Montenegro record of 1.96m this season, and Britain’s Emily Borthwick, who raised her own personal best to 1.95m last month.

The men’s shot put will feature Filip Mihaljević, the Croatian whose season’s best of 21.84m in Toruń on February 22 has him second in this year's world rankings behind the 22.51m registered on Sunday (February 27) by Olympic champion Ryan Crouser of the United States.

The Croatian will face strong opposition from the Pole who finished one centimetre behind him in Toruń, Konrad Bukowiecki.

The women’s long jump will see Britain’s Lorraine Ugen, who won the national indoor title at the weekend with an effort of 6.75m, facing the Swede who has won at the last two Gold meetings, Khaddi Sagnia, who has a season’s best of 6.70m.

So too does another athlete in the field, Spain’s María Vicente.
