The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) plans to provide a sports management course to all National Federation general secretaries as part of President Alfred Foloko's attempts to enhance overall performance.

Foloko made the announcement upon the conclusion of a three-day sports administrators course workshop held at the Olympic Youth Development Centre Zambia in Lusaka.

This course attracted 22 administrators, but the NOCZ hopes to have the general secretaries from all 27 affiliated National Federations attend the proposed sports management course.

"Our mission as the National Olympic Committee is to promote Olympism, embrace Commonwealth values and support the development of sport through sustainable programmes," Foloko said.

"Sport administrators' courses are a perfect example of sustainable programmes that we have adopted over the years and have since trained over 250 administrators in the past quadrennial [2017-2021] in a bid to support the development of sport in the country by building capacity in national sport federations."

Foloko also emphasised that sport administration courses are essential for anybody entangled in managing, administering and organising sport.

"NOCZ recognizes this fact and strives to enhance sport administration and management capacities of our affiliate sport associations," he said.

Foloko added that it is important to also recognise the role of national course directors (NCDs), who are responsible for ensuring the contents of such courses maximise the impact on participants' learning.

''Our local NCDs have over the years proved to be a critical feature in the deliverance of these courses from a local perspective.

"In addition to the current existing team, NOCZ plans to train more NCDs in this new quadrennial."

All the participants were awarded certificates of participation and copies of an Olympic Solidarity sport administration manual.
