Hervé Piccirillo, President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), met with Tunisian National Olympic Committee (CNOT) counterpart Mehrez Boussayene to discuss a cooperation programme between the organisations.

The meeting, in Tunis, focused on the partnership between CISM and the International Olympic Committee which strives for the promotion of sport and Olympic values to deliver friendship, solidarity and peace.

Piccirillo's visit is hoped to strengthen Tunisia's role in the partnership through a collaboration with the Directorate of Physical Education and Military Sport which is in line with the CNOT's strategic plan for 2022 to 2024.

The plan aims spread cultural and Olympic values throughout the country, and increase the body's communication and marketing on a local and international level to ultimately improve Tunisia's sporting standards by 2032.

The meeting gave Piccirillo an opportunity to acknowledge Tunisia's contribution to the CISM.

Mohammed Salah Mokaddam was President from 1979 to 1986 and Olympic champion Mohammed Gammoudi, who won 5,000 metres gold at Mexico City 1968, was a double military world champion.

In addition to Piccirillo and Boussayene, the meeting was attended by Delphine Viard, chief of staff to the CISM President, and Adberraouf Mokaddam, Tunisia's director of physical education and military sport.
