Egypt topped the overall medals table in the season-opening Karate 1-Premier League event in Fujairah following a late surge to claim three golds.

In the men's categories, Tokyo 2020 Olympian Abdalla Abdelaziz defeated Károly Gábor Hárspataki from Hungary 4-2 in the under-75 kilograms kumite final.

The under-84kg gold-medal match saw world champion Youssef Badawy beat Mohamed Ramadan in an all-Egyptian duel in convincing fashion, winning 4-0.

The over-84kg decider also saw two Egyptians fighting for gold.

The victory went to Mohamed Hazem for scoring the first unopposed point in his 3-3 battle with Taha Mahmoud.

Kazakhstan's Asian Championship bronze medallist Didar Amirali dominated Tural Aghalarzade of Azerbaijan 6-0 to take the under-67kg crown.

The final men's kumite gold medal went to Abdallah Hammad of Jordan in the under-60kg category after he scraped a 1-0 win over Iurik Ogannisian of Russia.

Turkey's 20-year-old Enes Özdemir won the men's kata to take his second Karate 1-Premier League title.


The under-21 European champion beat Japan's Kazumasa Moto by 26.46 points to 26.52.

In the women's events, 20-year-old Russian Anna Chernysheva beat Ukraine's Anzhelika Terliuga - an Olympic medallist - 3-2 in a tense under-55kg final.

It is the European champion's second consecutive gold in the Karate 1-Premier League after victory in Moscow last year.

More success was in store for the event's youngsters as 22-year-old Alessandra Mangiacapra of Italy won her first international title after defeating Ukrainian Olympian Anita Serogina 2-0 in the under-61kg competition.

World champion and Olympic silver medallist Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan beat Italy's Silvia Semeraro 5-2 in the under-68kg final.

The under-50kg gold-medal match saw Kazakhstani Olympian Moldir Zhangbyrbay beat Egypt's Yasmin Nasr Elgewily 2-1.

The last final of the day saw Frenchwoman Nancy Garcia beat María Torres of Spain at over-68kg final in an outstanding contest that ended 8-7.

Today's action concluded the event in Fujairah, with Porto in Portugal now set to host the next Premier League stop from April 22 to 24.
