Germany's Samuel Fitwi and Authorised Neutral Athlete (ANA) Anna Tropina triumphed in the men's and women's races respectively at the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold meeting in Hannut.

Fitwi followed up his Cross Country Tour victory on Belgian soil at Mol in November with another success in the CrossCup de Hannut.

He clocked 28min 51sec, winning by four seconds.

Uganda's Rogers Kibet was second, with Eritrea's Samuel Habtom third in 29:00.

Lucas Da Silva was the top Belgian performer, finishing fifth with a time of 29:41.

In the women's race, Tropina earned her first win on the Cross Country Tour in impressive fashion, with her 21:56 effort helping her to finish 24 seconds clear of Kenya’s Lucy Mawia.

Home favourite Lisa Rooms rounded off the podium with a time of 22:22, which was four seconds ahead of her compatriot Mieke Gorissen.

Tropina is among the Russian athletes allowed to compete with ANA status while the Russian Athletics Federation is suspended by World Athletics.

Uganda's 3,000 metres steeplechase Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Peruth Chemutai had been due to become the first Olympic champion to compete at the CrossCup for more than 40 years, but she did not start the race.

A further two Gold events are planned on this year's circuit.

Albufeira in Portugal is set to hold the 45th Cross das Amendoeiras em Flor next Sunday (February 27), with Serradilla in Spain staging the final event of the season on March 6.
