Argentina thumped England 5-2 to remain top of the women's Hockey Pro League standings, while the men's side also beat the same opposition in Buenos Aires.

Tokyo 2020 runners-up Argentina started strongly in the women's game, with Agustina Gorzelany scoring from a penalty corner in the fifth minute, and Julieta Jankunas doubled the advantage before the first quarter was over.

Hollie Pearne-Webb pulled one back for England, but a flurry of three goals in as many minutes left Argentina 4-2 up and the winners all but certain.

Delfina Thome and Gorzelany - again from a short corner - scored either side of an Elena Rayer goal.

Jankunas scored her second late on to make it 5-2, and ensure Argentina went back to the top of the table.

Argentina and India both have a 100 per cent points records, and a goal difference of positive seven, but Argentina have played three games compared to India's two.

Argentina's men's junior world champions were paraded pre-match at the Cenard venue on a proud day for Argentinian hockey.

The senior men's match finished 2-0, with Matias Rey and Federico Monja scoring for the hosts.

England could not turn their domination of possession into goals, but remain above Argentina in the standings on goal difference as both teams have two wins from three games.

There was also men's Pro League action in South Africa today, with Germany edging France 4-2.

All the goals came in the second half, with Justus Weigand, Hannes Müller and Thies Prinz putting the German 3-0 up at the North-West University Astro in Potchefstroom.

Timothée Clemént and Eliot Curty hit back in the final seven minutes to set up a grandstand finish, only for Moritz Trompertz to make it 4--2 in the dying seconds.

Germany, with three wins from five games and a points percentage of 60, are up to fifth.

France play South Africa tomorrow, while there is another doubleheader planned in Bueonos Aires.
