The remaining finalists have been decided at the Karate 1-Premier League event in Fujairah, with World Championship silver medallist Anita Serogina among those within one win of a title.

The Ukrainian downed compatriot Diana Shostak and Russia's Anna Rodina, both 2-1, to set up a gold-medal match with Alessandra Mangiacapra of Italy in the women's under-61 kilograms kumite.

Mangiacapra faced a difficult first knockout clash with countrywoman Giulia Angelucci in which she prevailed 3-2, before dispatching Kazakhstan's Assel Kanay 3-0.

The number one seed in the women's under-68kg class in the United Arab Emirates, Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan, made it to the final after beating Ukraine's Halyna Melnyk 4-1.

Zaretska, who won gold at last year's World Championships - also in the UAE - as well as in 2018, faced a nervy 1-1 encounter against Switzerland's Elena Quirici but progressed due to scoring first.

She will meet Italian Silvia Semeraro in the final.

Another top seed, Spain's María Torres García, advanced to a final, this time in the women's over-68kg kumite.

She beat Egyptian Shaaban Okila Menna, a World Championship runner-up, 5-3 and Slovakia's Dominika Tatarova 1-0 en route to the decider, where she will face Nancy Garcia.

The French karateka is searching for her third Karate-1 Premier League gold medal after triumphing in Dubai in 2020 and Madrid in 2019.

An all-Egyptian clash is in store in the men's under-84kg bracket, with top seed Youssef Badawy and Mohamed Ramadan reaching the gold-medal match.

Reigning world champion Badawy recorded confident 3-1 and 5-0 victories against Moroccan Mehdi Sriti and Azerbaijan's Panah Abdullayev, respectively.

Ramadan was formidable in the previous rounds, beating Austrian Robin Rettenbacher 5-1 and Turgut Hasanov of Azerbaijan 5-0.

Hazem Mohamed and Taha Mahmoud ensured another all-Egyptian final.

The pair reached the men's over-84kg final.

High-scoring Mahmoud is the favourite after two sublime performances, ending 5-2 and 7-0, against Curaçao's Rob Timmermans and Croatian Anđelo Kvesić, respectively.

The event will conclude tomorrow with the gold- and bronze-medal matches played throughout the day.
