The International Olympic Committee (IOC) previously confirmed no Medal Ceremonies were to take place for the team event, which the Russian Olympic Committee had provisionally won, as Valieva represented the team in the women's short programme and free skating.

United States claimed the silver medal and Japan were the bronze medallists.

Canada finished fourth and could be promoted to third if Valieva is given a suspension that covers her participation in the team event at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games here.

These Torches are expected to be given as placeholders for the medals, as teams could be promoted if the 15-year-old's suspension covers February 7.

insidethegames' exclusive story last week confirmed the Medal Ceremony for the team event was delayed, leading to the revelation that there was a legal issue surrounding Valieva testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine, a medicine usually used to prevent angina attacks and help blood flow to the heart.

Valieva is due to feature in the women's singles free skating tonight at the Capital Indoor Stadium, in which she leads after the short programme on Tuesday (February 15).

Unusually, for one of the blue riband events of the Winter Olympics, IOC President Thomas Bach has no plans to attend. 

The decision to let Valieva compete was announced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday (February 14),

They decided not to impose a provisional suspension on Valieva, meaning she was free to compete while her case continued.

The short programme marked the return of the teenager to competition, following the eight-day gap between the team event and the start of the women's, in which the details of her anti-doping violation were made public.

Provisional suspensions are typically implemented when an investigation into an anti-doping violation is ongoing.

Valieva's team has requested a B-sample be tested, but it is unclear whether or not this has been opened yet. 

IOC Presidential spokesman Mark Adams claimed yesterday in the daily press briefing that it had not been.

IOC President Thomas Bach has met with the United States figure skating team to discuss the situation.

"We can confirm that a meeting occurred today between President Bach and the USA figure skating team, however the details and content of that discussion will remain between them," read a United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee statement.

Such meeting did not take place with the Japanese team, with the IOC confirming that their team "fully-accepted" the IOC's approach.

If Valieva makes the podium tonight, there will be no Venue or Medal Ceremony.
