Marte Olsbu Røiseland of Norway hailed her "best performance ever" as she captured the women’s 7.5 kilometres sprint title at the Winter Olympics here.

Røiseland produced a clean shooting display in a superb victory, winning the event in 20min 44.3sec at the Zhangjiakou National Biathlon Centre.

It was Røiseland’s second title of the Games having been part of Norway’s mixed relay 4x6km success.

Røiseland has completed the set of Olympic medals in individual competition, having achieved bronze in this week’s 15km individual and silver in the women’s 7.5km sprint at Pyeongchang 2018.

Sweden’s Elvira Öberg finished almost 30 seconds behind Røiseland, clocking 21:15.2 for silver, while Italian Dorothea Wierer bagged bronze in 21:21.5.

They did not pick up any shooting penalties but it was World Cup leader Røiseland’s day as she added another victory to a stunning season for the Norwegian.

"It feels great," said Røiseland.

"This is my best performance ever and I did it today.

"What can you say about that?

"My ski time has never been better and I was really focused on the shooting range today.

"After the 15km (women's individual), I was a bit disappointed because I missed the last shots so I have worked a lot for three days now to try to focus on today and forget about the last race.

"I think I did a really good job in my head before today's race and for that I'm really happy."

Røiseland said she did not plan to shoot slowly but felt her composure at the range proved crucial to her success.

"I wish I could shoot faster, but today was not the day," said Røiseland.

"Some days you can shoot and feel rhythm, but today I didn't have the rhythm so I just had to take one shot at a time.

"I really focused on every shot.

"It's good to know you can hit all the targets if you don't feel so good in the shooting range, but you just have to work them down."
