Ethiopia's Tadese Takele and Slovenian Klara Lukan built on their third-place finishes on the World Athletics Cross Country Tour at San Vittore Olona by clinching victory in the bronze-tier event at Rovereto in Italy.

The Cross della Vallagarina was the final scheduled bronze event on this year's Tour.

Takele and Lukan earned bronze at the gold standard Cinque Mulini last Sunday (January 30) and they came out on top in the men's and women's races respectively.

On the men's side, Takele completed the nine kilometres race in 27min 08sec, three seconds clear of Kenya's Levy Kibet, who was placed second in Italy last weekend.

The podium was completed by Burundi's Egide Ntakarutimana, who clocked 27:17, pipping Tunisia's Mohamed Amine Jihnaouni to bronze by two seconds.

Last year's winner Cesare Maestri of Italy finished eighth in 27:43.

Lukan had an eight-second margin of victory over Kenya's Lucy Muli in the women's 5.3km race after posting a time of 17:47.

Burundi's Francine Niyomukunzi placed third in 18:01 was 26 seconds better than fourth-placed Rebecca Lonedo, the top performing runner for the host nation.

Four more gold events are scheduled on this season's Cross Country Tour, beginning with Saturday's (February 12) Agnes Tirop Cross Country Classic in Eldoret in Kenya.
