Anthony recorded a best score of 83.09, finishing some distance in front of Jaelin Kauf of United States, who improved on her seventh-place finish at Pyeongchang 2018 to take silver with a score of 80.28.

Nineteen-year-old Anastasiia Smirnova for the Russian Olympic Committee completed the podium, scoring 77.72.

Anthony was fourth in 2018 and the roles were reversed today, with the Australian claiming the Olympic gold medal while Pyeongchang 2018 champion Perrine Laffont from France finished in fourth on 77.36.

Seventeen-year-old Anri Kawamura of Japan was also agonisingly close to a medal, finishing fifth and scoring 77.12.

Olivia Giaccio of the United States was sixth and completed the line-up for the final run, with compatriot Hannah Soar and Britain's Makayla Gerken Schofield narrowly missing out.

The Pyeongchang 2018 silver and bronze medallists - Justine Dufour-Lapointe of Canada and Yulia Galysheva of Kazakhstan, respectively - also failed to make the final run.

Gerken Schofield became the first British skier to make a moguls finals at the Olympics, but Anthony made more significant history.

The 23-year-old is Australia's first-ever Olympic women's moguls champion, after Dale Begg-Smith won the men's title at Turin 2006.

Anthony adds the Olympic crown to a World Championship silver medal won in 2019, and is Australia's second medallist of the day, following Tess Coady's bronze in the women's snowboard slopestyle.
