Pesavento came out on top at the inaugural Winter Duathlon World Championships in Sant Julià de Lòria on Thursday (February 3), and added a world title in the three-discipline winter version of the sport.

The course for the men's and women's elite races featured two repetitions of a 4 kilometres run, 6.4km cycle and 6.2km ski leg.

Pesavento finished strongly on the final skiing stage to clinch victory in 1 hour 48min 10sec in the men's event, with Marek Rauchfuss of the Czech Republic 14 seconds behind him in second.

Bronze went to Evgenii Uliashev of the Russian Triathlon Federation (RTF) with a time of 1:50:49.

A RTF athlete stormed to victory in the women's elite competition, with Daria Rogozina performing consistently across all six legs of the race and the five transitions to finish in 2:03:59.

Italy's Sandra Mairhofer clocked 2:07:16 in second place, with Norway's Elisabeth Sveum 26 seconds slower in third.

She was followed by two RTF competitors in Yulia Surikova and Valeria Kuznetsova with times of 2:12:04 and 2:14:29 respectively.

Gold in the under-23 age category, which ran in parallel to the elite race for both genders, was clinched by Italy's Mattia Tanara in 1:54:31 on the men's side, and the RTF's Valeria Kuznetsova in 2:14:29 on the women's.

Tomorrow is set to mark the final day of competition in Andorra with mixed relays as well as individual age group and Para events at the World Triathlon Winter Championships.
